The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced a 15% fare reduction. This change will take effect on Saturday, May 25, 2025.
The decision came after a meeting with the Minister of Transport. Abbas Ibrahim Moro, the GPRTU Public Relations Officer, confirmed this news in an interview with 3news.
He stated, “We just had a meeting with the Minister of Transport. We agreed to reduce transport fares by 15% starting Saturday.”
This fare adjustment is due to an 18% drop in fuel prices.
Moro explained that the Union usually applies one-third of any fuel price decrease to adjust fares. However, they chose a 15% cut this time to help passengers.
He said, “We expect our counterparts in the spare parts industry to also lower their prices.”
Moro emphasized that they did not wait for other costs to decrease before implementing this fare reduction.
He warned GPRTU members against refusing to comply with the fare cut. He added, “If your Union has decided, you must comply.”
