GPRTU warns DecoBuild over unapproved tolls, threatens 10% fare hike

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has issued a warning to DecoBuild. DecoBuild operates at the Madina Lorry Park. They must stop collecting unauthorized tolls from commercial drivers.

The Union claims DecoBuild has a "pay-as-you-go" toll system. This system has created financial strain for drivers. Instead of paying a one-time daily toll, drivers now pay multiple times each day.

At a press conference in Accra on May 9, GPRTU spoke out. They gave the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly a one-week ultimatum. The Assembly must enforce proper toll regulations at the station.

If the issue is not resolved, transport fares may increase by 10%. Operators need to recover their losses due to these unauthorized tolls. GPRTU hopes the authorities will take action within the week.
