GRA must pursue Agradaa for gift tax – Ras Mubarak on viral dollar video

Former MP Ras Mubarak has urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to act against evangelist Patricia Asiedua, known as Agradaa. He claims she failed to pay taxes on a lavish cash gift shown in a viral video.

The video features National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi receiving foreign currency from Agradaa. Mubarak emphasized that gift taxes are legally required, regardless of the situation.

“On Mama Pat ‘Agradaa,’ she has to pay gift tax. It’s the law,” he stated in a post. He called for the GRA to pursue Agradaa for the tax owed on the gift.

Mubarak stressed that tax laws should apply equally to everyone, including celebrities and religious leaders. “There can be no sacred cows,” he added.

He also criticized the public display of foreign currency. He believes it could negatively impact perceptions of Ghana's economy.

“You cannot defend or justify a public office holder giving away forex,” he said, especially when the cedi is performing well.
