The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) plans to target the digital space. This is part of efforts to expand revenue collection. Many businesses on digital platforms currently evade taxes. Therefore, this sector is crucial for broadening the tax net.
Tax experts have urged the government to find practical revenue sources. They highlight the need for measures that ensure compliance with tax obligations. Experts also stress enforcing property rate collections at local assemblies. They call for more focus on the digital economy, including online businesses and app-driven services.
Commissioner General Anthony Sarpong stated that GRA is preparing to act in the digital space. He noted that many businesses operate online instead of traditional stores. "If you want to find service providers in Ghana, you go to Instagram," he said.
Sarpong asked how to bring these businesses into the tax net. He mentioned that GRA has started a program for the digital economy. "The future of business lies there, and so does future revenue," he added.
