The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) urges businesses to keep proper records. They also want timely tax payments to support national development and transparency.
Richard Ajago is the Assistant Commissioner at the Spintex TSC. He spoke about a tax clinic aimed at educating taxpayers. The focus is on compliance, recordkeeping, and online filing.
“Taxation relies on recordkeeping,” he said. “Without records, we cannot assess your income or expenses.”
He warned that poor bookkeeping can lead to unnoticed underground dealings. Many business owners underestimate the importance of basic bookkeeping for management and taxes.
Tracking sales, expenses, and costs helps clarify profit margins. This information is crucial for accurate tax assessments.
Mr. Ajago emphasized filing tax returns before making payments. “Filing returns allows for payment,” he explained. “If you don’t file, how can you pay?”
He noted that while many use GRA’s online platform, timely payments are still an issue.
“We encourage all taxpayers to file online and pay promptly,” he said. “This helps GRA meet revenue targets for national development.”
Mr. Ajago assured participants of GRA's commitment to improving service delivery. They aim to make tax compliance easier through digital platforms and ongoing education.
