GRNMA threatens strike over revoked nurse recruitment

GRNMA is urging the government to reconsider its stance GRNMA is urging the government to reconsider its stance

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has warned of a nationwide strike if the government does not reverse its decision to revoke the recruitment of nurses and midwives employed after December 7, 2024.

According to GRNMA, this directive will affect over 5,000 healthcare workers, potentially crippling the country’s health system.

The association argues that those affected are fully licensed professionals who were lawfully recruited in mid-2024.

They caution that withdrawing these workers will worsen staff shortages and impact patient care.

GRNMA is urging the government to reconsider its stance, warning that failure to act could force nurses and midwives to withdraw their services, leading to a healthcare crisis.
