The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will start a nationwide data collection on May 17, 2025. This is for the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS).
The QLFS is a new survey. It will provide regular data on employment, poverty, and food insecurity in Ghana.
The survey will include 13,920 households from 1,160 areas. Of these, 50.9% are urban and 49.1% are rural.
GSS is implementing the QLFS with help from the International Labour Organisation.
Dr. Faustina Frempong-Ainguah is the Deputy Government Statistician. She spoke at the survey launch in Winneba, Central Region.
She said this exercise supports evidence-based planning for national development. This is important due to recent changes in work patterns under the 24-hour economy policy.
“The focus of this survey is not just data collection,” she explained. “We want to understand how people live and work.”
This information will help the government make informed decisions.
Dr. Frempong-Ainguah encouraged all selected households to participate. The information gathered will shape national programs and resource distribution.
She urged everyone, especially media and community leaders, to raise awareness about the survey.
Regular updates will be shared through GSS platforms and stakeholder briefings.
Mr. Francis Bright Mensah is the Project Coordinator for QLFS. He urged field officers to be diligent during interviews.
He emphasized that accurate data relies on how well interviews are conducted.
The results will aid policy reviews related to employment and social protection.
They will also help track progress on national and global development targets.
Mr. Mensah asked selected households to cooperate with field officers. Providing complete and truthful responses is essential for success.
