The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has addressed troubling social media reports. These reports claim that minors were taken to a hotel in Accra New Town.
The GTA has reported the incident to the Nima Division of the Ghana Police Service. They are calling for a full investigation.
On Tuesday, the GTA released a statement. It confirmed that its CEO, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, sent a high-level team to inspect the hotel.
This team included Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey (Deputy CEO), Mr. Ekow Sampson (Deputy CEO), Ms. Roberta Dawson-Amoah (Regional Director), and Ms. Clara Nketiah (Deputy Director).
The GTA emphasized that their visit aimed to verify facts and ensure compliance in hospitality. They also thanked the Ghana Police Service for their cooperation in this investigation.
During their inspection, the team visited Royal Dede Beach Resort. This facility had been converted into a hostel under new management without notifying the GTA.
Investigations showed it was operating against tourism regulations from 2016 (L.I. 2239). The operator has been referred to the Standards and Quality Assurance Department of the GTA for further action.
The GTA reiterated that all accommodation facilities must register and obtain licenses before operating, as required by L.I. 2239. This regulation ensures safety and quality in Ghana’s tourism industry.
The authority is committed to protecting the public and maintaining high standards in tourism. They urge citizens to report any suspicious or unlicensed facilities to their nearest office.
