The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a directive.
All Vice Chancellors of public universities must suspend nominations for TEWU representatives.
This suspension is effective until further notice.
The decision comes amid a leadership dispute within the Tertiary Education Workers’ Union.
Two factions are involved: TEWU-GH and TEWU-TUC under the Trades Union Congress.
Jerry Sarto, GTEC's Director of Corporate Affairs, signed the statement.
He noted that GTEC is engaging both parties to resolve the issue.
As a result, all TEWU members already on governing councils are suspended.
This includes representatives from several universities, such as UCC and KNUST.
GTEC has scheduled a meeting for May 16, 2025.
TEWU-GH, TEWU-TUC, and Vice Chancellors-Ghana will attend this meeting.
They will discuss the situation and decide on next steps.
GTEC hopes for a resolution soon and asks for cooperation from all stakeholders.
