The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has made an important request. They urge the public to stay vigilant. Report any suspicious activities involving water meters, stopcocks, and safety valves. These components are crucial for monitoring water use and ensuring accurate billing.
This appeal comes after police arrested an 18-year-old man. He is suspected of leading a theft ring targeting water meters in Accra. Authorities made the arrest following complaints from residents about missing meters. This theft has disrupted the water supply in Adenta for weeks.
Police believe the stolen meters are sold as scrap or reused illegally. This compromises the efficiency of water services in the area. For months, officials have received reports of stolen equipment, prompting increased efforts to combat this issue.
Nana Yaw Banie, GWCL's Communications Manager, called for community support. He urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to water infrastructure. “We ask community members to help us stop this activity,” he said.
This recent arrest is part of GWCL's broader initiative against meter theft. They aim to address the growing trend and protect essential water services.
