GWF President Jerry Ahmed Shaib represents Ghana at African Weightlifting Congress in Mauritius

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), is in Mahebourg, Mauritius. He is representing Ghana at the African Weightlifting Congress.

This important event gathers top officials and stakeholders from Africa. They are discussing the future of weightlifting on the continent.

Mr. Shaib has met notable figures in global weightlifting. This includes Mr. Khaled Mhalhel, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA). He also met Ms. Ursula Papandrea, First Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The discussions focus on collaboration, governance, and athlete development among member nations.

“The Congress is an important platform for African weightlifting,” Mr. Shaib said. “It’s a privilege to be part of these conversations shaping our sport's future.”

The Congress will continue with an Electoral Congress tomorrow, April 22, 2025. New leadership for the continental federation will be elected then.

Afterward, there will be a competition featuring Africa’s best weightlifters showcasing their skills.

Ghana's participation highlights its commitment to developing weightlifting locally and internationally.
