GWL paid GHS 1.5m monthly to Adu Boahen for internet services – Ayine

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine revealed new details about Kwabena Adu Boahen. He is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). Ghan Water Limited (GWL) paid him GHS1.3 million monthly. This payment was a key issue in his recent arrest.

At a press briefing on April 30, Dr. Ayine discussed a contract between GWL and the NSB. Under this contract, GWL was to pay for secure internet services. However, Adu Boahen diverted these funds to his private company instead.

Dr. Ayine stated that Adu Boahen provided account details for BNC Communications Bureau Limited. This company received payments meant for the NSB. “Our investigation uncovered another scheme by Mr. Adu Boahen,” he said.

He explained that every month, GWL paid GHS1.3 million for internet services. By the end of the investigation, this amount had risen to GHS1.5 million monthly.

“Every two weeks, GHS650,000 left Ghana Water's account,” Dr. Ayine noted. Instead of going to the NSB account, it went to Adu Boahen’s company account with his wife.

Both Adu Boahen and his wife have been charged with stealing GHS49 million.
