Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) in the Accra West Region is taking action against illegal water connections. A recent detection exercise found nearly 1,500 illegal connections across 12 districts. This occurred between late 2024 and early 2025.
To address this issue, GWL offered a grace period for users to regularize their connections. They could do this without facing legal penalties. However, over 800 individuals have ignored this opportunity despite multiple reminders.
Illegal connections harm GWL's revenue and disrupt service for paying customers. Therefore, GWL has decided to pursue legal action against those who do not comply. They will collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to ensure offenders are prosecuted.
These illegal activities are considered theft and threaten the company's sustainability. GWL will not let a few individuals undermine its efforts or the rights of loyal customers. Those who do not regularize their connections will face arrest and prosecution.
Management urges the public to report any illegal connections in their communities. They remain committed to fair water distribution and improving service for all Ghanaians. For reporting, call: 030 221 8240, 020 738 5088, or toll-free at 0800 40 000 on Telecel mobile and landlines only.
