The Ga Traditional Council has declared a ban on drumming and noise-making as part of the customary rites leading to the annual Homowo festival.

In a press statement, the council stated that the ban will be in effect from Monday, May 12, 2025, to June 12, 2025, within the jurisdiction of the Ga State.

According to Ga Dangme tradition, different traditional areas observe Homowo on separate dates. As such, Osu, La, Nungua, Tema, Kpone, Prampram, and Ningo will announce their own bans after June 12, 2025, with specific details for their celebrations.

The council emphasized that the practice is legally recognized under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and outlined the following enforcement measures:

- Religious gatherings must be confined to their premises.

- Noise-making, including clapping, tambourines, and musical instruments, is
prohibited.

- Loudspeakers outside churches and mosques are banned.

- Roadside evangelism using megaphones or loudspeakers is not allowed.

- Funerals and related activities are suspended until June 20, 2025.

Residents and religious groups are urged to comply with the directive to ensure a peaceful observance of the Homowo festival.
