The Ga Mashie Traditional Council has summoned 15 churches. This includes Calvary Baptist Church and Lighthouse Chapel. They are being questioned for violating a noise ban that started on May 12.
Asafoatse Mankatta leads the taskforce enforcing this one-month directive. He confirmed the summons in an interview with Adom News.
Mankatta stated that some churches were clapping during services, which violates the ban. When the task force delivered summons letters, some churches refused to accept them.
He expressed surprise at Calvary Baptist Church's actions. "They were making noise as if there was nothing at stake," he said.
Church authorities must appear before the Council on Thursday, May 22. Mankatta warned of serious consequences if they do not comply.
He reiterated that clapping and drumming are banned during this period. However, singing is allowed.
If churches have soundproof structures, the Council will not take issue with them. Mankatta urged the Christian community to follow these rules.
He emphasized that enforcement will intensify starting next Sunday. The month-long ban prohibits clapping, loudspeakers outside church premises, roadside evangelism, and musical instruments indoors or outdoors.
This ban is part of customary rites leading to the Homowo Festival celebration.
