Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko is the new Co-Chair of the Commonwealth Legal Network (CLN). He is hopeful about increased economic cooperation among Commonwealth nations. He believes lawyers will play a key role in this process.
In an interview with Asaase Radio, he discussed a global shift. This shift positions the Commonwealth at the center of trade and investment growth.
Otchere-Darko also leads the Africa Prosperity Network and works at Africa Legal Associates. He noted that changes in global economic strategies are uniting Commonwealth countries.
He mentioned key economies like Canada, India, Australia, and Caribbean nations. These countries are eager to enhance trade and investment within the Commonwealth. The African continent is also integrating rapidly.
“Canada is looking beyond North America for economic ties,” he said. “India, Australia, and Caribbean states want to boost existing advantages.” He added that Africa aims to build a single market with 21 Commonwealth members.
The CLN supports deeper economic ties within the Commonwealth. It is backed by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gaining traction, legal infrastructure becomes crucial. Otchere-Darko’s comments highlight its importance for cross-border economic activity across continents.
