A special police team has intercepted four excavators at Akani. This location is in the Western Region.
Two of the excavators were escorted by armed men. These men are believed to be military personnel.
ACP Eric Asiedu, Director of Special Operations, reported on the operation. It began after credible intelligence indicated suspicious movements of mining equipment. This was outside Samreboï Township.
Led by ASP Mr. Adorye, police officers went to a specific location. They intercepted two low-bed trucks carrying an excavator each.
Earlier, the team raided a large illegal mining site at Akani. This site is on the outskirts of Asankragua.
The operation led to nine arrests and seized illegal mining equipment.
This effort supports the Inspector-General of Police's vision against illegal mining. It aims to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
Police have secured all involved equipment since then.
