Organized Labour, led by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has threatened to strike if the government fails to act against illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) by the end of September.

The TUC demands the declaration of a state of emergency in affected areas, a ban on mining in forest reserves, the establishment of special courts to prosecute offenders, and military deployment to dismantle mining operations.

The TUC blames the government’s inaction for the environmental damage caused by galamsey. They insist that immediate and decisive measures are necessary to protect the environment.
