The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has urged the government to act. They want the names of individuals and companies involved in illegal mining. This includes those importing and financing excavators for galamsey.
The Coalition believes the government's effort to trace excavator chassis numbers is overdue. They insist that naming key players is essential for accountability.
In an interview with Citi News, Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey spoke on behalf of the Coalition. He called for stricter measures against galamsey activities.
He said, "Let’s start with the list of seized excavators." He mentioned a recent raid at Samreboi where 17 excavators were found.
Ashigbey asked who imported these machines and who rents them out. He emphasized the need to trace financial connections to uncover responsible parties.
He noted that while the government has acknowledged this issue, action is slow.
