The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has called for the resignation of Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor after he labeled calls for a state of emergency to address illegal mining, or galamsey, as "draconian."
Kenneth Koomson, Deputy Secretary General of the GFL, expressed disappointment with Jinapor's remarks, accusing the minister of downplaying the severity of the galamsey crisis.
Koomson argued that Jinapor’s response shows a lack of understanding or a deliberate disregard for the destruction caused by illegal mining and questioned his ability to manage the situation effectively.
