Daryl Bosu, Deputy Director of A Rocha Ghana, criticized the Mahama administration. He accused it of lacking a clear strategy against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
Bosu spoke on Citi FM on April 10. He noted that the period after the 2024 elections allowed illegal miners to operate freely. He said leadership gaps emerged after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat to President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Bosu, political elites and security agencies seemed disengaged during this time. This allowed illegal miners to exploit vulnerable areas. “The transitional period was a major lapse,” he stated.
He further criticized the current administration for not improving since taking office. Despite strong statements about environmental protection, conditions have worsened on the ground.
“Everyone expected better from the new government,” he lamented. “But it seems they are clueless.” He added that reports indicate things have gotten worse with no relief in sight.
Bosu questioned whether the government had a solid plan before assuming power. Many strategies appear reactive and lack clarity, he noted. His comments reflect public concern about ongoing galamsey issues and government inaction despite promises made.
