Prof. Ransford Gyampo, President of the University of Ghana chapter of UTAG, has criticized the government for its lack of genuine commitment to fighting illegal mining (galamsey).
Speaking on Adom FM after UTAG declared an indefinite strike starting October 10, 2024, he accused the government of failing to fulfill promises and focusing more on upcoming elections. He argued that despite military deployments to mining areas, no concrete results have been achieved.
Prof. Gyampo emphasized that UTAG would continue its strike until the government shows a real commitment to tackling the issue.
