Galamsey fight challenging, time to reclaim arable lands – Asantehene

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called the fight against illegal mining, or galamsey, a tough challenge. He is worried about the environmental damage caused by this activity. He described the situation as deeply troubling.

During a meeting with Eagle Mining Company officials, he spoke at Manhyia on May 5, 2025. The Asantehene stressed the urgent need to stop galamsey.

"This is a challenging time for us," he said. "Galamsey destroys much of our arable land." He added that river bodies are also being harmed.

"It has been very challenging for us," he noted. "We seek to find solutions."

He emphasized the goal of reclaiming damaged lands and restoring them for agriculture.
