Ghana Police Conduct Anti-Galamsey Operations
The Ghana Police Service has launched anti-galamsey operations since March. These operations target communities affected by illegal mining.
Recently, police conducted a special operation in Samreboi. This area is along the Tano River in the Western Region. They arrested fifty-eight suspects: fifty Ghanaians and eight Chinese. The police also seized eighty-five excavators and three bulldozers.
Other Regional Police Commands have also acted against illegal mining. The Western Regional Police Command arrested nineteen suspects. They recovered three excavators and three pump-action guns.
In the Upper West Region, seven Ghanaians were arrested. Authorities retrieved eleven changfangs and three motorbikes there.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command arrested twenty-four suspects. This group included one Burkinabe national. They seized five excavators, three single-barrel guns, and one pump-action gun.
The Western Central Regional Police Command arrested eighty-five suspects. This included seventy-six Ghanaians and nine Chinese nationals. They recovered eleven excavators among other items.
In the Eastern North Region, fifteen suspects were taken into custody. One of them was Chinese, and police seized four excavator control boards, nine monitors, and one pistol.
Overall, 208 suspects have been arrested so far. Authorities have confiscated 99 excavators, three bulldozers, four pump-action guns, and more items like vehicles and generators.
All suspects are undergoing legal processes now. The Ghana Police Service remains committed to fighting illegal mining activities to protect natural resources.
