Gbande demands arrest of Afenyo-Markin, others over missing ECG containers

Mustapha Gbande is the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency. He has called for the immediate arrest of three individuals. They are linked to the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port.

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Gbande named former ECG Board Chairman Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He also mentioned former Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh and former ECG CEO Samuel Dubik Mahama as responsible for the missing containers.

Gbande stated, “Afenyo-Markin now wants to run away from responsibility.” He believes it is crucial for him to be arrested immediately.

He stressed that corruption on this scale should not go unpunished. Gbande urged for swift legal action against those involved.

“I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Mahama, and Prempeh,” he said. He emphasized that corruption must be addressed decisively.

The situation regarding the missing ECG containers raises serious accountability concerns in the power sector.

Initial reports indicated that ECG had 2,491 uncleared containers at Tema Port. However, an audit found only 1,134 containers accounted for, leaving over 1,300 missing.

These containers reportedly held electrical equipment like cables and transformers. Their disappearance has led to public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.
