‘Gbawe War Leader’ remanded for allegedly using offensive weapon

Dansoman Circuit Court News

Kelvin Nii Quartey, a 22-year-old mason, is known as "War Leader" in Gbawe. He has been charged with several serious crimes. These include abetment of escape, causing harm, and using an offensive weapon. Other charges are unlawful damage and threat of death.

Quartey appeared before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa. He pleaded not guilty to all five counts. The court remanded him into police custody. His case is adjourned to May 2, 2025, for further investigation.

Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah leads the prosecution. She stated that on August 5, 2024, Quartey helped a suspect escape from Gbawe North Police Station. Armed with a machete, he allegedly attacked Emmanuel Mills and caused significant injury. During this incident, he also threatened Mills' life in front of police officers.

Quartey had been on the run since the attack but was caught on April 3, 2025. Police found him at a hideout. During questioning, he confessed to his crimes and promised to help recapture his accomplice but later did not follow through.

In another case, Joseph Dodoo appeared in court as well. The 40-year-old businessman is also known as "Ashalley." He faces charges related to a land dispute that turned violent at Domeabra. Dodoo pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and causing harm.

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder explained the situation in court. On April 22, 2025, Dodoo allegedly led a group to confront another party over disputed land. This confrontation escalated into violence and resulted in the shooting of Emmanuel Aryee.

Aryee suffered a bullet wound to his thigh but has since been treated and discharged from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Dodoo has been remanded and will return to court on May 12, 2025.

Both cases are still under investigation as police work to arrest accomplices and uncover more details about these incidents.
