The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has strongly condemned the death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student at KNUST, calling it a “heinous act.”

In a statement, the ministry extended condolences to Yabani’s family and the university community, emphasizing the need to combat gender-based violence.

Sector Minister Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has personally engaged with the victim’s family, assuring them of the ministry’s support.

Law enforcement agencies have been urged to ensure swift justice, while the ministry collaborates with key stakeholders to strengthen preventive measures.

The public is encouraged to report gender-based violence through the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope (0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900) or the Domestic Violence Call Centre (0800-111-222).
