General Legal Council caught up in strange ruling

Critics argue the ruling evaded the core issue of admission qualifications Critics argue the ruling evaded the core issue of admission qualifications

The General Legal Council’s (GLC) Disciplinary Committee has dismissed a complaint challenging the legal qualification of Josephine Sekyi Hughes, daughter of former Speaker Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes.

The case, filed by Charles and Peter Zwennes, questioned her eligibility for the Ghana School of Law’s Post-Call Conversion Course in 2004, as she was never called to the Bar in England and Wales.

A Kroll report confirmed she was not a qualified UK lawyer, but the GLC ruled she duly attended the law school and was called to the Ghana Bar.

Critics argue the ruling evaded the core issue of admission qualifications, sparking concerns about legal education oversight.

Josephine’s lawyers have refuted Kroll’s findings, demanding a retraction.
