Germany set to open doors for thousands of Ghanaian youth in new labour deal

Germany is open to signing a labour mobility agreement with Ghana. This deal would allow thousands of young Ghanaians to find jobs in Germany. It is currently under discussion and aims to ensure safe and dignified work. This follows a similar agreement Germany made with Kenya.

Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa shared this news. He has been involved in diplomatic talks about the agreement. While in Berlin for the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial, he met with several German officials.

These officials included Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Joachim Stamp, who represents migration agreements. Ablakwa described these meetings as productive and significant.

He stated, “This agreement would guarantee safe, rewarding employment like the one with Kenya.” He expressed hope for quick implementation of the deal.

For Ghana, this agreement means more than job placements. It reflects President John Mahama’s commitment to impactful diplomacy. The goal is to address urgent challenges facing Ghana's youth.

The government aims to help young Ghanaians gain international work experience. They also want to provide legal protections and safeguards for these workers.

Labour mobility agreements are vital for countries like Ghana. They help manage high youth unemployment by allowing safe worker movement across borders.

Ablakwa noted that discussions with German officials were positive and showed mutual interest. Successful negotiations could lead to significant benefits for Ghana’s workforce development.

As talks continue, there is hope that many young Ghanaians will soon find opportunities abroad. They can contribute their skills while earning fair incomes under good conditions.

Ablakwa concluded by emphasizing President Mahama’s belief in meaningful diplomacy: “For God and Country.”
