Ghana’s economy, trade must be diversified  – Swiss Ambassador

Switzerland’s Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger, has called for economic diversification in Ghana. She urges the country to expand trade and production beyond traditional exports.

Ghana and Switzerland have a long-standing relationship. This includes trade, cocoa partnerships, and environmental collaboration. Ambassador Giger believes it is time for Ghana to add value to local products. She wants to see more Ghanaian goods in international markets.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on June 5, 2025, she expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic potential. She encouraged developing new sectors that could enter global markets.

“In boosting the economy, I feel that Ghana’s economy and trade should be more diversified,” she said. “I would be super happy if one day I could go to a Swiss market and buy clothes made in Ghana.”

She also reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to environmental cooperation with Ghana. “We will continue our cooperation in environmental protection,” she noted. “I hope other countries will see what we have done.”

Ambassador Giger added that they learn from their experiences. She hopes Ghana will receive praise for its work with the EPA on climate initiatives.
