Ms. Olivia Graham, Ashanti Regional Technical Coordinator of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), has raised concerns over the rising HIV cases in the region, which currently has over 66,000 infections.
Despite the availability of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), less than 50% of those infected are undergoing treatment.
Ms. Graham made the remarks during a World AIDS Day event in Kumasi, where the GAC organized a free multiphasic health screening.
The screening included HIV tests, blood sugar tests, BP checks, and BMI assessments, with free condoms and HIV self-test kits distributed.
In 2023, 3,650 new HIV cases were reported, averaging 10 infections daily.
Ms. Graham urged individuals to take HIV tests and adhere to ART to reduce viral load and prevent further spread.
