The National Identification Authority (NIA) will start issuing Ghana Cards on Monday, April 7, 2025. This will happen at all District Offices in the Greater Accra Region.
This initiative aims to ensure every eligible Ghanaian has a Ghana Card. The card is the main form of identification in the country.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NIA confirmed that card issuance will resume. This applies to applicants waiting since June 2023.
“All Ghanaians who applied for first issuance, replacement, or updates from June 2023 are assured that cards will be issued starting Monday,” the statement said.
The NIA encourages all Ghanaians aged 15 and older to register. They can visit any NIA District Office in Greater Accra for first-time registration.
Both backlog issuance and new registrations are free of charge. The public should report any NIA staff asking for fees for these services.
While new registrations remain free, fees apply for card replacements and personal record updates.
The NIA is committed to ensuring all Ghanaians are identified under the national system.
“The National Identification Authority remains dedicated to ensuring all Ghanaians have a Ghana Card,” the statement concluded.
