Ghana Chamber of Mines commends gov't, Gold Fields on Damang Mine transition agreement

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has praised the government and Gold Fields Ghana Limited. They reached a positive agreement on the Damang Mine transition arrangements.

The Chamber supports the new 12-month mining lease for Abosso Goldfields Limited. This lease will allow safe open-pit mining during the transition period.

The Chamber stated, "This commitment maintains jobs and processes stockpiles." It highlights the shared interest in sustaining mining operations for employees and local communities.

Additionally, a joint asset transition team has been established. This team includes representatives from both parties to oversee the mine's transfer to Ghanaian ownership.

"This step promotes local participation and investor confidence in mining," said Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, acting CEO of the Chamber.

He added that such partnerships enhance governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

The Chamber also appreciated early discussions about renewing the Tarkwa Mine lease due in 2027. They believe this proactive approach is vital for stability in Ghana’s mining sector.

As the representative body for Ghana's mining industry, the Chamber encourages open dialogue among stakeholders.

"This will build public confidence and position Ghana as a top mining investment destination," it concluded.
