The Ghana National Gas Company Limited has a new Board of Directors. Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi leads this board. They recently completed a two-day tour of the company’s facilities in the Western Region.
During their visit to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, Mr. Totobi Quakyi spoke to staff. He highlighted the importance of the technical workforce. He emphasized that the Board wants to work collaboratively with them.
“We want to focus on your technical work,” he said. “You make Ghana Gas what it is. We are partners, not overlords.”
The tour aimed to give the Board a better understanding of operations. They visited several key installations, including the LPG Bottling Plant in Axim and an unfurnished Gas Lodge. They also saw a fully equipped Trauma Centre that is currently inactive.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi expressed concern about these non-operational projects. “It’s surprising that a fully equipped trauma centre remains inactive,” he noted. This facility was funded by a major national loan.
He assured staff that steps would be taken soon to activate the trauma centre.
Another important stop was at Ayinasi, where a 20-bed mini-hospital is under construction. The Board praised technical staff for their ten years of service at GPP1.
During a meeting with staff, Mr. Totobi Quakyi reiterated their commitment to financial management and operational integrity. “We will do things right and plan for savings,” he stated.
He encouraged staff to stay open-minded as they prepare for future goals.
As Ghana Gas plans for GPP2 development, securing government investment is crucial. Mr. Totobi Quakyi stressed that they must meet operational benchmarks first.
“We must prove we are ready,” he emphasized during the tour, which included visits to other key sites in Sekondi-Takoradi and a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Awulae Agyenfi Kwame, who is also a board member.
