Ghana-Germany trade hits €180.9m in first quarter of 2025

Ghana's trade volume with Germany reached €180,923,000 in early 2025. This information was shared by Mr. Daniel Krull, the German Ambassador to Ghana.

Exports to Germany totaled €85,660,000. Imports from Germany were €95,263,000. This reflects a growth rate of about 49% compared to early 2024.

In the first quarter of 2024, total trade was €127,673,000. Exports were €63,682,000 and imports were €63,991,000. This represented a 44% growth from 2023.

Mr. Krull announced these figures during a press briefing at his residence. He introduced a project called “New Northern Dimensions.” This initiative focuses on culinary creativity and cultural exchange.

The project celebrates the 836th anniversary of Hamburg in northern Germany. It aims to showcase the cultures of northern Ghana and northern Germany.

Mr. Krull noted that trade figures are encouraging. Trade volumes have ranged between $500 million and $700 million in recent years.

He explained that Ghana mainly exports cocoa, gold, tropical foods, and raw materials. In contrast, Germany exports vehicles, machinery, and spare parts.

The Ambassador emphasized the importance of sustained bilateral trade for Ghana. He highlighted Ghana’s preferential access to the German market as an advantage.

“We have a strong market for Ghanaian manufacturers,” he said. He stressed the need for a reliable investment framework for businesses.

Mr. Krull added that Germany hosts many specialized trade fairs for various industries. These fairs help Ghanaian investors enter the European market effectively.

The celebration of Hamburg's anniversary will take place on May 29 at the Ambassador’s residence. Members of the Diplomatic Corps and business community will attend this event.
