Ghana Immigration Ladies Association warns against online love scams

The Ghana Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILA) has issued a warning. They advise Ghanaians, especially women, to be cautious with online relationships. Scammers are posing as potential partners to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

Chief Superintendent Nana Nyarkoa, President of IMMILA, shared these concerns. She noted that scammers invest time in building trust with victims. Later, they manipulate them into sending large sums of money.

These scammers often use social media and dating sites. They create fake profiles and impersonate famous personalities to target people seeking love.

Nyarkoa spoke at the inauguration of IMMILA at the Assin Fosu Immigration Training School. The association aims to empower female officers within the Service. It promotes professionalism, unity, and welfare among its members.

IMMILA also focuses on public education about national issues. This includes topics like security and online safety.

Nyarkoa highlighted a common scam tactic called "love bombing." Scammers shower excessive attention on their victims early in relationships. This can lead to emotional manipulation and loss of personal boundaries.

She advised individuals to be cautious with strangers showing excessive affection. Setting boundaries and taking things slow can help avoid love bombing.

Deputy Commissioner Alex Adu praised IMMILA's establishment during the event. He recognized its role in promoting professionalism among female officers in the Ghana Immigration Service.

Adu encouraged IMMILA members to uphold high standards of integrity and dedication. By doing so, they can enhance their careers and improve the Service's reputation overall.
