Ghana Immigration Service carries out operation targeting undocumented migrants

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has started a nationwide operation. This operation targets undocumented migrants in major cities, especially Accra.

It began early on Friday, May 16, 2025. This effort aims to enforce immigration laws and improve national security.

Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta issued a press statement. He said the operation is part of their mission to ensure legal residency for foreign nationals in Ghana.

“We are assessing the outcomes and will share more details soon,” the statement added.

Specific locations and numbers affected have not been shared yet. However, sources say the operation involves collaboration with other security agencies.

This action responds to concerns about rising undocumented migrants in city centers. The GIS urges the public to stay calm and cooperate with authorities during this time.

Amoako-Atta reassured that due process will be followed. Genuine foreign nationals with proper documentation should not worry.

“Our aim is to sanitise the system, not to victimise law-abiding residents,” he stated.
