Ghana Is the Beacon of Sustainable Mining –Lands Minister

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed Ghana’s leadership in sustainable mining. He positioned the country as a model for West Africa.

At the West Africa Mining and Power Expo (WAMPEX), he addressed industry leaders. The Minister emphasized Ghana’s responsible resource development. He urged other countries to follow Ghana's example.

“Ghana is not just a mining destination,” he stated. “We show that responsible investment and transformative development can coexist.” This was during the launch of WAMPEX 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre on May 28.

He highlighted that stable policies attracted about $1.2 billion in foreign direct investment last year. This reflects Ghana’s political stability, skilled workforce, and investor-friendly climate. Over 100 mining communities now benefit from the Mineral Development Fund. This shows Ghana's shift from corporate social responsibility to genuine shared value.

The Lands Minister showcased Ghana as a continental leader across four strategic pillars:
- Investor confidence
- Community impact
- Environmental stewardship
- Transparent governance

“Our doors are open, our policies are clear,” he asserted. “Our commitment is unwavering.”

He called for WAMPEX 2025 to be remembered as a turning point. It should mark when sustainable deals were made and partnerships formed.

Mr. Michael Edem Akafia, Chairman of the Conference and President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, spoke next. He stressed the importance of aligning with sustainable development goals for maximum socio-economic impact.

In his welcome address, Mr. Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, reinforced this year’s theme: “The Mining and Power Hub: Driving Sustainable Investment Opportunities in West Africa.”

He encouraged firms to remain resilient amid economic challenges while driving regional transformation.

WAMPEX 2025 is currently underway in Accra. It serves as an international forum for professionals and government officials from West Africa. Attendees discuss industry developments, pressing challenges, and future investment opportunities in mining and power sectors.
