President John Mahama has launched the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, called MahamaCares. He stated it is more than a healthcare program. It symbolizes hope for many families across the country.
The launch took place on Tuesday, April 29, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). Mr. Mahama described the initiative as a beacon of hope. It aims to help Ghanaians facing long-term health challenges.
“Today we are launching hope,” he said. This hope is for those living with chronic diseases and their families. They often struggle with overwhelming care costs.
He emphasized that the fund represents a step toward health equity. “This is hope for a future where quality of life isn’t determined by money,” he declared.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund will support treatment for various chronic illnesses. These include cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, and stroke.
Mr. Mahama noted that the fund aims to fill gaps in healthcare access. Many people cannot afford advanced treatments due to high costs.
He expressed his commitment to an inclusive healthcare system. No Ghanaian should be left behind because of financial constraints.
