The Director of Naval Operations, Naval Captain Ebenezer Kwame Yirenkyi, announced plans for the Ghana Navy (GN). He stated that the GN aims to increase its sea dominance. This effort will help deter criminals and prevent maritime havens.
To achieve this goal, the GN has upgraded its operations. They have improved ship patrolling and electronic monitoring from maritime operation centers. Additionally, they are sharing information with neighboring countries and partners.
Naval Captain Yirenkyi spoke at a press conference on Wednesday. The event took place at the Naval Headquarters in Burma Camp. It followed a visit from a French delegation, including the Commanding Officer of the French Navy offshore patrol vessel Commandant Ducuing.
He also mentioned that the GN has two ships stationed near Ghana’s oil fields. These ships provide security for offshore platforms.
