Ghana Tourism Authority showcases unique offerings at Seatrade Cruise Global Exhibition in Miami

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) attended the Seatrade Cruise Global Exhibition. This event took place in Miami, Florida. It is a key platform for cruise industry stakeholders.

The conference brought together cruise line executives, port authorities, and tourism boards. Shore excursion companies and destination marketers also participated.

The Ghanaian delegation included Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO of GTA. Other members were Ekow Sampson and Vittus Otto Langmange from the Ministry of Tourism. They met with global stakeholders to discuss opportunities in the cruise industry.

Mr. Aggrey stated that GTA's presence was a significant milestone for Ghana. It aims to position Ghana as a top cruise destination in West Africa. He emphasized promoting Ghana's cultural heritage and natural attractions.

“Ghana is well-positioned to be a cruise hub in West Africa,” said Mr. Aggrey. He noted that strengthening ties between tourism and maritime sectors is essential. This can enhance shore experiences for cruise passengers.

Cruise ships are diversifying their itineraries beyond traditional destinations. Ghana offers compelling options through its ports in Tema and Sekondi-Takoradi.

The GTA stressed the need for collaboration between port authorities and tourism stakeholders. This will improve the experience for cruise visitors.

The delegation highlighted destination branding and digital marketing's importance. They encouraged local tour operators to create authentic experiences for cruise guests.

These experiences could include visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Cape Coast Castle. Other options are cultural performances, craft villages, nature reserves, and culinary tours—all near docking locations.

The GTA pointed out that cruise guests seek memorable short-stay experiences. Tour companies in Ghana must innovate to meet this demand effectively.
