Ghana Tourism Authority showcases unique offerings at Seatrade Cruise Global Exhibition in Miami

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) attended the Seatrade Cruise Global Exhibition. This event took place in Miami, Florida. It is a key platform for cruise industry stakeholders. Participants included cruise line executives and tourism boards from around the world.

The Ghanaian delegation featured Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO of GTA. Other members included Mr. Ekow Sampson and Mr. Vittus Otto Langmange from the Ministry of Tourism. They met with various global stakeholders to discuss cruise industry opportunities.

Mr. Aggrey stated that GTA's presence was a significant milestone for Ghana. It aims to position Ghana as a top cruise destination in West Africa. He emphasized engaging with cruise line executives to promote Ghana’s cultural heritage and attractions.

"Ghana is well-positioned to be a cruise hub," said Mr. Aggrey. He noted that strengthening ties between tourism and maritime sectors can enhance visitor experiences. With ships diversifying itineraries, Ghana offers appealing options through its ports in Tema and Sekondi-Takoradi.

The GTA stressed the need for collaboration between port authorities and tourism stakeholders. They highlighted destination branding, digital marketing, and shore excursion development as crucial areas of focus.

Local tour operators were encouraged to create authentic experiences for cruise guests. Suggested activities include visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle, cultural performances, craft villages, nature reserves, and culinary tours.

The GTA pointed out that cruise guests seek memorable short-stay experiences. Tour companies in Ghana must innovate to meet this demand effectively. They should position themselves as trusted partners for international cruise lines.
