Ghana Water Limited to prosecute over 800 illegal water users in Accra West

Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) in the Accra West Region plans to prosecute people involved in illegal water connections. They discovered nearly 1,500 cases across 12 districts from late 2024 to early 2025.

In a statement, GWL said over 800 individuals ignored a grace period. This period allowed offenders to regularize their connections without facing legal action.

“Despite multiple reminders, more than 800 individuals have not complied,” the company stated. “These illegal connections deprive us of revenue and disrupt service for law-abiding customers.”

As a result, GWL will take legal action with the Ghana Police Service against non-compliant users. “Illegal water connections are theft and threaten our sustainability,” GWL added. “We will protect our staff's hard work and our loyal customers' rights.”

The company urges the public to report illegal connections in their communities. They reaffirm their commitment to fair water distribution and improved service delivery.

For reports and inquiries, GWL provided these contact numbers:

- Call Centre: 030 221 8240, 020 738 5088,
020 738 5089, 020 738 5090

- Toll-Free Line: 0800 40 000 (available on Telecel mobile and landlines only)

GWL is dedicated to protecting water infrastructure and providing reliable service to all Ghanaians.
