Ghana armed forces investigate alleged assault on civilians by soldiers

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is investigating an alleged assault on civilians in Kumasi.

This incident occurred on Friday, March 28, 2025. Seven military personnel are involved—three officers and four soldiers. They are accused of arresting and attacking three civilians over a stolen mobile phone.

On April 2, 2025, the GAF released an official statement. They assured the public that action would be taken if the officers are found guilty.

“The Military Police and Ashanti Regional Police CID are investigating,” the statement said. The officers and soldiers have been placed under closed arrest during this investigation. This information was shared by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations.

The release noted that the civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated.

The military command urged the public to remain calm, especially friends and families of the victims.

“We also urge families and friends to await the outcome of investigations,” they added.

The GAF reaffirmed its commitment to discipline within its ranks. They emphasized that anyone guilty of misconduct will face legal consequences.
