The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two cases of Mpox in Accra. Health authorities are taking swift action to contain the virus. They aim to reassure the public about the situation.
On Wednesday, GHS released an official statement. They are working with the Ministry of Health on necessary interventions. These include contact tracing and intensified surveillance.
Public awareness efforts are also being heightened. Mpox is a viral disease spread through close contact with infected individuals or animals. Symptoms include fever, rash, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes.
Despite these cases, there is no cause for alarm. The Ministry of Health and GHS stated that Ghana's public health system remains vigilant. Established protocols for managing infectious diseases are being applied rigorously.
Health officials have started tracing individuals who may have been in contact with the confirmed cases. These contacts are monitored for symptoms and receive medical support as needed.
Surveillance in health facilities and communities is being intensified to identify any further suspected cases quickly.
The Ministry and GHS have launched a public education campaign on Mpox. Citizens are urged to practice proper hygiene and avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals. They should report any suspected cases to nearby health facilities immediately.
Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of GHS, emphasized the government's commitment to protecting public health. He stated that they have the capacity to manage this situation effectively.
Authorities reaffirm their preparedness and urge the public to remain calm and cooperative during containment efforts.
