Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, has made a statement. He claims Ghana has returned to democracy. This declaration comes as President John Dramani Mahama marks 120 days in office.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, also spoke. He announced that President Mahama will address Ghanaians tonight. The president will discuss his 120-day social contract.
Mahama's address is scheduled for 8:30 PM. It will be broadcast live on TV and radio. In his post on X, Ofosu confirmed the details of the broadcast.
Since returning to office, Mahama has been active with reforms and policies. His administration aims to fulfill key campaign promises quickly. In these first 120 days, he has made significant progress in various areas.
Some fulfilled promises include:
- The rollout of the Mahama Cares social protection framework.
- A free sanitary pad initiative for schoolgirls.
- Launching the One Million Coders Programme for youth digital skills.
- Introducing the Adwumawura Programme to promote job creation.
- Providing free tertiary education for persons with disabilities.
- The Black Star Experience tourism and cultural program.
- Restructuring loss-making State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
- Seed money for the Women’s Development Bank.
- Establishing the Accelerated Export Development Council.
- Investigating the Akosombo dam spillage that affected many people.
Additionally, Prof Stephen Adei praised Mahama's performance so far. He stated that anyone being objective would agree Mahama has done well in his first 120 days.
