The Government of Ghana has introduced a new visa policy. Applications will now be processed within five working days. This is a significant reduction from the previous 4 to 6 weeks.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the change. The new policy takes immediate effect. It aims to make Ghana a top destination for tourism and investment in Africa.
The Ministry stated that measures are in place at diplomatic missions. These measures will help reduce visa processing times significantly. Systems have been deployed worldwide to ensure smooth implementation.
This move follows President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge on January 7, 2025. He declared that “Ghana is open for business.” The Foreign Ministry believes this policy removes bureaucratic barriers for travelers and investors.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed his commitment to making Ghana more competitive. He aims to attract more investors and tourists by reducing red tape. However, the Ministry clarified that the new timeline does not guarantee automatic approval.
A decision will be made within five working days regarding eligibility for a visa. The expedited policy is expected to boost tourism and foreign investment. It also encourages greater engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora.
“Ghana is truly open for business,” Mr. Ablakwa concluded. “Come enjoy the Black Star experience.”
