Ghana is open for business – Ablakwa unveils 5-day visa policy

Ghana has launched a new visa policy to attract investors and tourists.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced this change. Visa applications will now be processed in a maximum of five working days. This is a significant reduction from the previous four to six weeks.

Ablakwa shared this news in a Facebook post. He stated that the new visa policy takes immediate effect.

The Ministry has introduced operational measures at Ghana’s diplomatic missions. These measures aim to ensure compliance with the new processing timeline.

Ablakwa noted that they are reducing the average processing time significantly. The goal is to cut it down from four to six weeks to just five days.

This announcement follows President John Mahama's call on January 7, 2025. He declared that “Ghana is opened for business.” Ablakwa said this policy aligns with the President’s vision.

He emphasized their commitment to practical actions that support this vision. The Ministry aims for expedited consular services and coherent policies.

Ablakwa wants to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and enhance Ghana's global competitiveness.

As Foreign Minister, he aims to make Ghana a top destination for investors and tourists.

However, he clarified that faster processing does not guarantee automatic approval. “This 5-day policy means decisions will be made within five working days,” he explained.
