Ghana is the only country paying tax for a pandemic that has passed – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has criticized Ghana's continued taxation related to COVID-19, arguing that the country still faces pandemic-related taxes despite the pandemic's end.

Speaking at a Mahama Youth Town Hall, he claimed that the COVID tax, a value-added tax introduced to boost revenue, remains despite promises to remove it.

Mahama highlighted that the tax is tied to the government’s agreement with the IMF, making its removal complicated.

He vowed to rationalize taxes and eliminate "obnoxious" ones if elected, citing the underperformance of the E-Levy as an example of ineffective tax policy.
