The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has highlighted the need for stronger anti-corruption laws in Ghana, stating that the current legal framework is inadequate to curb corruption effectively.
Samuel Appiah Darko, OSP’s Director of Strategy, Evaluation, and Communication, emphasized this during a forum in Accra, noting that while Ghana has numerous laws, they lack the efficiency required for impactful enforcement.
Appiah Darko also expressed concerns over the proposed Conduct of Public Officers’ Bill, suggesting that, in its current form, it lacks meaningful limits, such as setting ceilings on permissible gifts for public officials.
He stressed that without comprehensive improvements, new laws risk becoming “white elephants.”
